American Robins have brown feathers along their backs, a reddish orange chest and white underbelly. They usually measure around 25 cm in length, with males only slightly larger than females.

Robins inhabit woodlands, gardens, orchards, lawns, fields and areas with short grasses where foraging is possible. They can be found in most of the United States year round and prefer to nest in dense shrubs and trees.

Robins are omnivores eating everything from earthworms to fruit.

How to Deter Robins

Though Robins migrate north for summer and south for winter, they can commonly be found in suburban and agricultural settings in America year round. Most homeowners encounter problems with Robbins at bird feeders, in yards and backyard gardens. Robins also like to nest in dense shrubs and trees. Other times, Robins are attracted to windows pecking at what they perceive is another bird.

Important: Robins are protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Act which states that once an egg is laid in a nest, the nest is to remain intact until the hatchlings have left. Avoid hefty fines, call Bird-B-Gone at 1-800-392-6915 for advice or an installer in your area.

Habitat modification

It's most likely food or a nesting site that's attracting Robins to your property. Address the feature that is drawing them in to make your property less inviting:

♦  Start with adding visual deterrents around your garden edibles before they ripen to deter birds from eating your backyard crops.
♦  Net off fruits or vegetables to completely block the birds from the area
♦  For windows, try the window alert or bird alert to let the birds know there is indeed a surface in front of them.
♦  At bird feeders, if they are overwhelming the other birds, try a specie specific bird feeder. If they are eating up seeds that have dropped to the yard, try a bird   feeder with a wider catch tray.

Scare Tactics

♦ Hang visualdeterrents such as the Flash Tape, Predator Eye Balloon and Reflective Eye Diverters around the areas they are causing a problem

- set a scarecrow motion activated sprinkler in your yard prevent the birds from eating seeds in the grass.
