Gulls
Gulls
Description
There are 45 species of gulls in the world. Generally Gulls are medium to large birds with a predominately white body and grey or black markings on the wings and tail. They generally have stout, orangish bills and webbed feet.
Habitat
Gulls are found near large bodies of water including the ocean, bays, inlets and lakes, but will travel inland for food.
Diet
Gulls are scavengers, but also prey on fish, insects, mollusks, crustaceans, worms, mice, young birds, bird eggs, seaweed and berries.
How to Deter Gulls
Gulls thrive near human habitats that provide a good food source. Fortunately there are many effective and humane products to deter gulls from landing or roosting.
Habitat Modification
♦ Gulls can commonly be found on high perches including rooftops and parapet walls, boat masts, light posts, etc. Prevent gulls from landing in these areas by installing Bird Spikes, Bird Spiders, The Repeller 360° or Solar Bird Repellers.
♦ Gulls use hard surfaces such as roofs to drop muscles on in order to break them open. If you have this problem, try the Bird Chase Super Sonic, a weatherproof sound deterrent ideal for large open spaces.
Remove any food source
♦ If there is an open food source such as open trash cans or pet food around, covering or removing these food sources will send the birds looking elsewhere for their next meal.
Scare Tactics
♦ Birds have a heightened sense of their environment. If you appeal to their senses such as sight and sound, you can effectively scare birds away from your property using products like the Bird Chase Super Sonic or Reflective Bird Diverters.
Humane Removal / Professional Installer
♦ If you don’t have the time, resources or expertise to solve your bird problem, there are wildlife and pest control companies that offer bird control as a service.
♦ These professionals can install bird control products and offer other services such as clean-up and humane trap and removal.
